ABOUT EM
Em is a contemporary artist who paints figures unapologetically resting, riding or raging. Figures with agency, with straight backs and soft bellies.
Em’s art practice came out of a need to create psychological safety, joy and comfort in her own life, and in her work she tries to create for collectors what she struggles to give herself - calm, safety, rest and a safe space for power.
Em’s work tends to sit in two categories; femme figures lounging in interior scenes or bathing, submerged in water; and femme figures riding prawns, ibises and horses. The element that brings her work together is being focused on creating work for the ‘female gaze’, depicting women existing without the feeling of being perceived.
Colour contrasts are a central point in Em’s work, and she paints in a signature flattened style with bold bright colours and a focus on line and form over shading, to achieve this she uses a type of matte paint that achieves a level of hyper pigmentation.
Em’s work has been featured in Marie Claire, ABC, Time Out amd Peppermint magazine. Em studied a bachelor of Design and UNSW: Art and Design, and she creates work in her studio on Gadigal land in Surry Hills.

Em’s hand painted originals are professionally photographed, colour corrected and giclee printed on the highest quality archival fine art paper and inks which makes them look like an original artwork.
All print sizes are in limited editions of 50, editioned, signed and dated by the artist.
All artworks are printed locally by a small fine art printer in Marrickville, Sydney.
